Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment is created by State Statute Section 89 and consists of five city residents. The Board has the powers and jurisdiction to:
Hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the Zoning Administrator.
Authorize variances which will not be contrary to the public interest, provided the spirit shall be observed, public safety and welfare secured, and substantial justice done.

Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of eight members, including the Mayor, an Alderman selected by the Board annually at its first organizational meeting, the City Public Works Director or similar City Official and five citizens appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board. All citizen members serve without compensation, for a term of four years, and are appointed for varying periods so that the terms will be staggered.
The Planning and Zoning Board hears cases of voluntary annexation, zoning change requests, and changes to the zoning code.
